Viv Drewa
Interviewed By: Ms. Nita Samantaray
Author Viv Drewa is Michigan native who has enjoyed
reading and writing since 1963. Though she studied medicinal chemistry at the
University of Michigan her passion has always been writing. She had been awarded third place for her non-fiction short story about her grandfather's escape from Poland. Later, she rewrote this story and was published
in the "Polish American Journal" as ""From the Pages of
Grandfather's Life" and has republished it on Amazon.com as a short story. She will be working on making a novella in the near future. She took creative and journalism courses to help transition to fulfill her dream
of becoming a writer. She worked as an intern for Port Huron's 'The Times
Herald", and also wrote, edited and did the layout for the Blue Water
Multiple Sclerosis newsletter "Thumb Prints." Her passion is teaching sewing to
physically and mentally disabled adults. She also writes blog to promote her fellow
authors.
Lets have a glance on what she has to say on my Questions:
Nita: Hi Viv, I Welcome you to ''All about an Author''
Viv: Thank you for having me.
Nita: Tell me a bit about yourself.
Viv: I grew up in Detroit, Michigan and
moved to St. Clair County when I was 24. My major in college was Medicinal Chemistry but I always wanted to be an
author. When I was 28 I took creative writing at our junior college and wrote
for our local paper, The Times Herald, and also for our local Multiple
Sclerosis groups newsletter.
Nita: When and how did you start your journey of writing?
Viv: In 2012 I outlined my first book, “The Angler and the Owl” and attempted to obtain an agent. After sending out numerous emails I started looking into becoming an Indie Author. Since then I’ve published three books and a short story, and am working on my fourth book.
Nita: What inspired you for writing?
Viv: I loved to read from the very beginning and when I was 9 years old I read a book, “The Whistling Sword” by J.R. Green. This books made such an impression on me I wanted to write.
Nita: Is there any specific genre that you prefer to write or read?
Viv: I really love the paranormal genre, especially if ghosts are in the book and murder mysteries, but I also read many other genres.
Nita: How will you explain your books?
Viv: Right now I have one romance action/adventure, one paranormal/thriller, one murder/suspense, and my short story is the true story of my grandfather’s escape from Russian occupied Poland. This I’m planning on turning into a novella by 2017.
Nita: How was your book publishing journey?
Viv: I learned a lot! I didn’t realize how involved it was to be an Indie Author, and was lucky enough to have met some wonderful people who became my mentors and friends.
Nita: Is writing your passion or profession?
Viv: It’s a passion for me; something I’ve always wanted to do
Nita: How did you manage time between your full time profession and writing?
Viv: I don’t work so I devote my time to my writing.
Nita: Best piece of writing advice from you?
Viv: Read! Get to know your genre. Get to know your readers!
Nita: Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
Viv: Even though I love scary books and movies, I’m terrified of the dark.
Nita: Do you have any upcoming books or plans?
Viv: I’m working on book 2 of my Joe Leverette series, and planning on making my grandfather’s gook into a novella. I’m also going to take a shot at writing adult fiction or erotica.
